OTTAWA, ON – The Hon. Andrew Scheer, Leader of Canada’s Conservatives and of the Official Opposition, issued the following statement to mark Italian Heritage Month:

“Today marks the beginning of Italian Heritage Month, which is followed tomorrow by Italian Republic Day.

“Over 1.5 million Canadians trace their heritage to Italy. This month is an opportunity to celebrate the numerous achievements and contributions of Italian Canadians to our country’s social and economic fabric, as well as to celebrate their culture, art, and history as part of our cultural diversity.

“While this year the community will not be able to march in parades and attend festivals due to the current pandemic, I hope that Italian Canadians will still be able to come together and celebrate online.

“On behalf of Canada’s Conservatives, I would like to extend my best wishes to all Canadians of Italian origin as they celebrate their heritage!”
