FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

OTTAWA, ON – The Hon. Andrew Scheer, Leader of Canada’s Conservatives and of the Official Opposition, issued the following statement to mark Pentecost Sunday:

“Today, Christians in Canada and around the world celebrate the feast of Pentecost, which marks the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the disciples and the birth of the Church.

“On the fiftieth day after Jesus rose from the dead, the twelve Apostles and Jesus’ mother Mary were in Jerusalem observing the Jewish Festival of Weeks, or Shavuot. The Acts of the Apostles records that while they were praying together there was a rushing mighty wind and tongues of flame appeared on their heads. They began to speak in different languages and were able to share the Gospel with people from many different cultures and nationalities. Obeying Jesus’ instruction to go and teach all nations, they preached to the crowds in the city and baptized more than three thousand people that day alone.

“While we will not be gathering in our churches physically this year, I hope that Christians can still celebrate the joy and richness of today’s feast. “On behalf of Canada’s Conservatives, I wish Christians across Canada a blessed Pentecost.”
