Conservatives respond to new quarantine hotel requirements

Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Michelle Rempel Garner, Conservative Shadow Minister for Health, and Pierre Paul-Hus, Conservative Shadow Minister for Public Services and Procurement, issued a statement following the Liberal government’s announcement regarding quarantine hotel requirements:

 “A year into the pandemic, the Liberal government is underutilizing the tools that exist to effectively manage the spread of COVID-19, like vaccines, rapid testing, and variant testing capacity. Justin Trudeau remains far behind in getting vaccines to Canadians, and many questions remain as to how he plans to reach his own timeline of September 2021.

“We know that we need vaccines to round the corner of this pandemic and to secure our future, but Justin Trudeau and the Liberals continue to let Canadians down.

“When it comes to essential travel, Canadians deserve care and compassion. We are asking that the Liberal government formally allow the following groups of people to quarantine at home, in compliance with pre- and post-arrival testing requirements:

  • Those travelling for non-elective medical procedures;
  • Unaccompanied minors;
  • Those travelling for family reunification; and
  • Compassionate travel for those affected by end-of-life or medical emergencies.

“Canada’s Conservative will continue to push the Liberal government for the clarity Canadians deserve. We are focused on securing jobs, securing our economy, and securing our future.”
