Ottawa, ON – Tony Baldinelli, Special Advisor to the Conservative Leader on Tourism Recovery, and Bernard Généreux, Member of Parliament for Montmagny—L’Islet—Kamouraska—Rivière-du-Loup, issued the following statement on the Highly Affected Sectors Credit Availability Program (HASCAP):
“Conservatives are calling on the Trudeau Liberals to release details on the HASCAP and open applications before next month.
“The Liberals announced the HASCAP more than a month ago. Since then, businesses still don’t know when they can apply, who will qualify, or when funding will come.
“Every day this government delays, the jobs of more men and women in the travel and tourism sector are placed at risk. Businesses can’t afford to wait any longer – they deserve certainty and clarity from their government on whether or not they will get the help they so desperately need.
“Our travel and tourism sector was one of the first hit hard by COVID-19 and it will be one of the last to fully recover. The September 2021 timeline from the Trudeau Liberals to vaccinate the majority of Canadians means another summer tourism season is now at risk. This Liberal government needs to take action now before more businesses close and more jobs are lost.”
