Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Michael Chong, Conservative Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs, today released the following statement on the one-year anniversary of the downing of Flight PS752 in Iran:

“Tomorrow marks one year since the downing of UIA Flight PS752. Dozens of innocent lives were lost, including 55 Canadian citizens and 30 permanent residents.

“Our prayers are with the victims and their families as we grieve this atrocity.

“This was a horrible disaster in which a passenger jet was destroyed by an Iranian missile. Those responsible for this attack must be held to account.

“For the past year, Conservatives have called for Magnitsky sanctions to be imposed on those responsible in the Iranian regime if they failed to cooperate with the investigation. The evidence provided by the government is that Iran has failed to do so.

“Conservatives believe that Magnitsky sanctions must be used against those responsible for this atrocity and the IRGC must finally be listed as a terrorist organization. There must be justice for the victims and their families.”
