Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole calls for immediate action on Enbridge Line 5

Ottawa, Ontario – The Hon. Erin O’Toole, Leader of Canada’s Conservatives and the Official Opposition, released the following statement on Enbridge Line 5:

“Canadians who depend on our world-class energy sector to provide for their families are being let down by Justin Trudeau.

“We need to get Canada working again – we can’t afford to give up on Canadian jobs. Justin Trudeau can’t pick and choose which jobs are worth saving.

“While the Governor of Michigan is trying to shut down Enbridge Line 5, in violation of the Transit Pipelines Treaty that President Joe Biden supported as a senator, the Trudeau Liberals are refusing to stand up for Canadian jobs – again.

“Five thousand good-paying jobs would be lost in Sarnia if the project is cancelled, with thousands more in jeopardy across Ontario and Quebec’s energy industries.

“Enbridge Line 5 is an essential part of our Canadian energy supply chain. The results of the cancellation are clear: immediate and alarming fuel shortages across Ontario and Quebec, increased truck and rail transportation of oil, increased fuel prices, and greater environmental risks.

“Justin Trudeau and his government need to ensure this vital infrastructure link remains uninterrupted and jobs are not lost. Canada can’t afford another Liberal failure like Keystone XL.”
