Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Ed Fast, Conservative Shadow Minister for Finance, and Gérard Deltell, Conservative Shadow Minister for Innovation, Science and Industry, released the following statement after Statistics Canada revealed inflation has reached 6.8 per cent:

“The Liberals’ sky-high inflation is driving the cost of living up, with prices increasing by 6.8 per cent compared to a year ago.

“Millions of Canadians are feeling the pinch of inflation in their daily lives. Families and seniors are falling behind, while the Trudeau government and its NDP allies do nothing to give them a much-needed break.

“Justin Trudeau and his experts claimed that Canada’s inflationary crisis would be ‘transitory’. He was wrong. The Liberals’ out-of-control spending is fueling skyrocketing inflation and a cost-of-living crisis that is making it even more difficult for families across Canada to make ends meet, with no end in sight.

“Inflation is costing every Canadian an extra $2000 this year alone. Food is getting more expensive, up 9.7 per cent in just the last year – the largest increase since 1981. Gas prices are setting record-highs, as much as ¢239.9 in British Columbia. And housing prices continue to reach new records, after already doubling since Justin Trudeau became Prime Minister.

“With nearly half of Canadians within $200 of insolvency, we can’t afford more of the tax-and-spend agenda of the Liberals that is fueling the cost-of-living crisis.

“Conservatives will always be the voice of Canadians struggling with the cost-of-living crisis. We will continue to fight for common-sense solutions that provide relief to Canadians, leaves more money in their pockets, and protects the money they earn.”
