Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Ed Fast, Conservative Shadow Minister for Finance, and Gérard Deltell, Conservative Shadow Minister for Innovation, Science and Industry, released the following statement on a Statistics Canada’s report today warning that inflation has reached its highest point since January 1991:
“For the first time in over 31 years, prices are up 6.7 per cent compared to a year ago.
“Millions of Canadians are barely holding on, as the pinch of inflation is making everything in their daily lives more expensive. Families are spending nearly $1000 more on groceries this year. Gas and home heating are costing more. And housing prices have doubled since Justin Trudeau became Prime Minister. Families and seniors are falling behind and they see the Trudeau Liberals doing nothing to give them a break.
“After seven years of Justin Trudeau’s policies, Canadians are facing record-high inflation and a skyrocketing cost-of-living leading to higher grocery and gas prices, and a growing housing affordability crisis. More than half of Canadians are $200 or less away from not being able to pay their bills or rent, with three-in-ten already falling behind at the end of the month. The NDP-Liberal budget presented earlier this month does nothing to address this.
“Canadians can’t afford more of the tax-and-spend agenda of the Liberals — they deserve a government that will take real action to fight the cost-of-living crisis and outline a clear commitment to control inflation.
“Conservatives will always be the voice of Canadians left behind by the spiralling cost of living. We will continue to propose common-sense solutions to provide relief to Canadians, leave more money in their pockets, and to protect the value of the money they earn.”
