2023 was the worst year on record for overdose deaths in British Columbia, with 2,511 deaths – a staggering 7 deaths per day.
Ottawa, ON – Dr. Stephen Ellis, Conservative Shadow Minister for Health, and Laila Goodridge, Conservative Shadow Minister for Addictions, released the following statement:
“The Trudeau-NDP approach to drug policy is an abject failure. Nowhere is that more obvious than in British Columbia, where Trudeau and his NDP friends have allowed taxpayer-funded dangerous drugs and drug decriminalization to destroy thousands of lives.
“The Trudeau Liberals have flooded the streets with dangerous opioids and have ignored all evidence that doing so has ruined the lives of countless Canadians and devastated numerous communities.
“We are deeply concerned about the path that Canada is travelling on, and we fear for the safety of our communities and the future of our country, as its government is actively facilitating the consumption of dangerous drugs by vulnerable Canadians, including children.
“Common sense Conservatives will emphasize treatment and recovery rather than taxpayer-funded dangerous drugs. We will restore hope for our most vulnerable. Recovery from addiction is possible.”
