FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE

OTTAWA, ON – The Leader of Canada’s
Conservatives, the Honourable Andrew Scheer, issued the following
statement to mark Lunar New Year:

“Today, Canadians of Chinese, Hong Kong, Vietnamese, Korean,
Japanese and Taiwanese heritage will celebrate the beginning of the Lunar New
Year, the most important holiday for many communities of Asian origin across
Canada.

“Many Canadians will celebrate this centuries-long cultural
tradition by gathering together with their families and friends to welcome the
New Year. Whether you are celebrating Seollal, as the Korean
communities, or Tet, as the Vietnamese communities, New Year is a time to
gather with friends and family.

“Canada is proud to be home to one of the largest Asian
diasporas in the world, and this occasion provides an opportunity for us to
reflect on the tremendous contributions that the members of these communities
have made to our country’s rich and diverse heritage.

“This year, we say goodbye to the Year of the Pig and
welcome the new Year of the Rat– which is seen to represent wisdom, creativity,
and belief in a brighter future.

“Our Conservative team will be attending multiple
celebrations throughout the country to share this occasion with friends.

“I encourage you to join the many local celebrations planned
in your communities from coast to coast.

“On behalf of Canada’s Conservatives, I hope this year will be filled with joy, peace and new opportunities for all. From my family to yours, Happy Lunar New Year!”

Happy New Year!
