Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Andrew Scheer, Leader of Canada’s Conservatives and of the Official Opposition, released the following statement on Orthodox Easter:
“Christ is risen!
“To all Eastern Orthodox and Catholic Christians celebrating the Resurrection of our Lord today, I wish a happy and blessed Easter!
“Easter, or Pascha, is the greatest day in the Christian year. The passion suffered by the Lamb of God is an open declaration of His love for mankind, and His death and resurrection have opened the way to eternal life for all believers.
“While this year our celebrations have to take an unusual form, Easter is a reminder for us that even in such difficult circumstances God is with us.
“As the Paschal Troparion says in the Byzantine liturgy, “Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death and upon those in the tombs bestowing life!”
“On behalf of my wife Jill and our entire family, I wish all Eastern Orthodox and Catholic Canadians a most joyful and blessed Easter. And may God fill your homes with peace, health and joy. “
