FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Ottawa, ON – The Honourable Andrew Scheer, Leader of Canada’s Conservatives and of the Official Opposition, issued the following statement on Easter:
“Today marks the most joyous day on the Christian calendar, Easter Sunday. Today Christians across Canada and around the world are celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ and His victory over death.
“Normally our churches would be packed, and many families would gather to celebrate. But this Easter is going to look a little different for most of us. Rather than gathering with our church communities, we will observe this day in our homes, praying, livestreaming services, and holding virtual prayer meetings with friends and family. But nothing can change the hope that we celebrate and the joy that it brings to our hearts.
“And while we are separated from each other on this glorious day, let us be encouraged by the words of the apostle Paul, found in Romans 8:38-39, that remind us that ‘neither death nor life, nor angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers….can separate us from the love of God.’
“Let us also say a prayer for the persecuted church. Because while we look forward to celebrating together next year, for many Christians around the world, today is no different from every other Sunday where they must worship and pray out of the public eye.
“On behalf of my wife Jill and our entire family, I wish all Christians across Canada a most joyful and blessed Easter. And may God fill your homes with peace, health and joy.
“He is risen!”
