The subcommittee of the
Leadership Election Organizing Committee (LEOC) tasked with appeals of Chief
Returning Officer (CRO) decisions – otherwise known as DRAC (Dispute Resolution
Appeals Committee) – has heard an appeal from leadership contestant Jim Karahalios
in relation to a recent ruling of the CRO.

A complaint was filed against
the Karahalios campaign on Monday, March 9, 2020 in relation to statements made
by Mr. Karahalios through email, mail, and social media earlier in the month.
The CRO reviewed the complaint and determined there was reason to investigate
further.

On Tuesday, March 10, 2020, the
CRO began the process to seek additional information from Mr. Karahalios. After
collecting positions from both the Karahalios campaign and the complainant, the
CRO consulted with LEOC and delivered a ruling on Tuesday March 17, 2020.

The Karahalios campaign appealed this decision by the CRO to DRAC on Wednesday, March 18, 2020. DRAC heard from the Karahalios campaign through written submissions, and from the CRO. Today, DRAC issued a ruling that Mr. Karahalios would be disqualified as a candidate in the Conservative Party’s Leadership Election.

No further comment will be made
by LEOC, the Co-Chairs, the CRO or DRAC.
