Ottawa, ON — The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Official Opposition, released the following statement on the anniversary of the murder of the Afzaal family:
“Two years ago, as they went out for a family walk, four innocent Muslims were murdered in a disgusting act of terrorism. The Afzaal family, representing three generations of a family that had for years been living, working, and studying here in Canada, had their lives stolen from them.
“The fact that the Afzaals were targeted for their faith makes this crime even more vile. The Conservative Party stands with Muslims across Canada to reject racism, hatred, and Islamophobia in all their forms.
“Today, we renew our commitment to making our country a place of freedom, where all people are able to practice their religion without fear. Where Muslims can live with the certainty that their families are safe from hate and violence.
“As we remember the Afzaal family, Conservatives will work to honour their memory by defending Canadians from this kind of violent hatred, restoring safety to our streets and bringing home a country where Muslims and all Canadians are free to worship in peace.”
