Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Erin O’Toole, Leader of Canada’s Conservatives and the Official Opposition, issued the following statement on the Pfizer dosing delay by the Trudeau government:

“In a recent statement, Pfizer reiterated that there is no data on the safety or efficacy of the vaccine if the second dose is delayed beyond 21 days, adding that they can’t confirm if those vaccinated with only the first dose are protected against the virus after that 21-day period has lapsed. Given that less than 3 per cent of Canadians are fully vaccinated, I am very concerned about the impact this news could have on the health of Canadians.

“Canada is in unchartered territory because we are administering a vaccine on a schedule that hasn’t been tested for efficacy or safety. As we watch other countries like the U.S. and the U.K. emerge from the pandemic, Canada sinks deeper into a crisis of the Prime Minister’s making.

“Canada’s top scientists have expressed concerns about the delay, saying they wouldn’t recommend it if we had an adequate supply, which Justin Trudeau has failed to deliver. This failure has very real consequences, and is potentially putting Canadians at risk.

“Canada’s Conservatives will continue to hold Justin Trudeau accountable for his failure to keep Canadians safe and secure the future.”
