FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Erin O’Toole, Leader of Canada’s Conservatives and the Official Opposition, released the following statement on Orthodox Easter:

“Today marks the most joyous day for Eastern, Orthodox, and Apostolic Christians observing according to the Julian Calendar and marks the culmination of Holy Week, Easter Sunday.

“It is a day of joy and celebration to commemorate that Jesus Christ is risen. This Easter comes at a unique moment in our lives when we are reminded that hope always triumphs over despair.

“Instead of embracing the celebration with the community in church, Christians are gathering with family at home and virtually.

“For too many Christians around the world, today is no different from every other Sunday where they must worship and pray out of the public eye. Conservatives will always stand up for those persecuted for their religious beliefs.

“As we reflect on Jesus’ message of hope, love, and compassion, let’s take a moment to thank our healthcare and essential service workers who, even after a year of this pandemic, are still on the frontlines every day working to keep us safe.

“Wishing all those celebrating peace, health, and joy during this celebration.

“He is risen!”
