Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Erin O’Toole, Leader of Canada’s Conservatives and the Official Opposition, released the following statement on Easter:

“Today marks the most joyous day on the Christian calendar and the culmination of Holy Week, Easter Sunday.

“It is a day of joy and celebration to commemorate that Jesus Christ is risen. This Easter comes at a unique moment in our lives when we are reminded that hope always triumphs over despair.

“This Easter is going to look a little different. Instead of embracing the celebration with the community in church, Christians are gathering with family at home and virtually.

“For too many Christians around the world, today is no different from every other Sunday where they must worship and pray out of the public eye. Conservatives will always stand up for those persecuted for their religious beliefs, including Christians.

“As we reflect on Jesus’ message of hope, love, and compassion, and partake in annual Easter egg hunts, let’s take a moment to thank our healthcare workers and essential service workers who, even after a year of this pandemic, are still on the frontlines every day working to keep up safe.

“Wishing all Christians peace, health, and joy during this celebration.

“He is risen!”
