Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Candice Bergen, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Official Opposition, released the following statement on Vyshyvanka Day:

“Since February, the world has watched in shock and horror as war has spread across Ukraine. The images of the pain and suffering that is being inflicted on the Ukrainian people are unforgettable.

“Today, on Vyshyvanka Day, we admire the heroism and strength being displayed by Ukraine. We celebrate the unique bonds of culture and heritage that have made the Ukrainian people strong, and we honour the values that they are fighting to preserve and defend.

“Vyshyvanka Day is also a time to appreciate all the ways that Ukrainian-Canadians have enriched and strengthened our country. Their example serves as a reminder that the spirit of Ukraine can never be broken.

“The Conservative Party of Canada continues to support Ukraine in its fight for freedom and democracy. We stand with Ukrainians all over the world, as we look forward to the day when they can once again freely celebrate their history and culture in peace.
