Ottawa, ON – Dan Albas, Conservative Shadow Minister for Finance, and Gérard Deltell, Conservative Shadow Minister for Innovation, Science and Industry released the following statement after Liberal and NDP members voted against a Conservative motion to help Canadians with the cost-of-living crisis:

“The NDP-Liberal coalition is ignoring the cost-of-living crisis.

“The NDP-Liberal coalition had the opportunity to support a Conservative motion to help Canadians with the cost-of-living crisis. Instead, they voted against providing Canadians relief at the pumps, they voted against ending federal COVID-19 restrictions to help the tourism sector, they voted against providing relief to farmers, and they voted against doing anything to address the housing affordability crisis. 

“Canadians are facing an inflation driven cost-of-living crisis caused by Justin Trudeau’s reckless spending and irresponsible politics. Rapidly rising prices are making it more expensive for Canadians to get to work, transport goods, and live their everyday lives. In addition, out-of-date COVID-19 restrictions are slowing the recovery of the tourism and transport sectors and preventing life in Canada from going back to normal.

“Justin Trudeau’s vindictive, petty politics only hurt Canadians. By defeating our motion meant to help hard-working Canadians, the Prime Minister isn’t hurting the Conservative Party, he is punishing Canadians who can least afford it.

“This year, inflation will cost every Canadian an extra $2000. Justin Trudeau’s petulant politics and allergy to common-sense solutions are to thank for that.

“Conservatives will continue to be the voice for Canadians that care about the cost of living. We will fight for Canadians to be able to feed their families and afford a home.”
