Ottawa, ON – Dan Albas, Conservative Shadow Minister for Environment and Climate Change, and Alain Rayes, Conservative Shadow Minister for Official Languages and Quebec Lieutenant, issued the following statement in response to the Liberal government’s attempt to delay the release of their official plan to hit Canada’s climate target for 2030:

“Today, the Liberal government announced they are using a section of the new climate ‘accountability’ law to delay the required tabling of their climate plan to March.

“This news comes just a week after the Environment Commissioner slammed the Liberal government for being all talk and no action on climate change. The law was rushed into force this summer before the election because the government said the plan was urgently needed. Now we see the Liberals delay because the reality is they don’t have a plan.

“The Trudeau Liberals love to set targets and commit to lofty pledges at international summits but, when it comes to the hard work of engaging provinces, communities, industry, and First Nations, they fail to deliver.

“Canada’s Conservatives are not afraid of hard work, and will continue to call on the Liberals to come to the table with all levels of government to establish a real plan to develop Canada’s secure climate future while meeting our economic goals.”
