Housing prices continue to break records under Trudeau Liberals

Ottawa, ON – Matt Jeneroux, Conservative Shadow Minister for Housing and Diversity and Inclusion, Dan Albas, Conservative Associate Shadow Minister of Finance and Housing Inflation, and Luc Berthold, Deputy Leader of the Official Opposition and Québec Political Lieutenant, today released the following statement in response to statistics released by the Canadian Real Estate Association:

“Another month, another record high.

“Today, the Canadian Real Estate Association reported that housing prices have reached another record high, with the average price of a home reaching $874,100 – a jolting 27.1 per cent increase over the last year.

“As the dream of homeownership continues to slip away for an entire generation of Canadians, the Trudeau Liberals continue to offer hollow promises and failing programs to tackle the housing unaffordability crisis.

“Rather than tackling the supply shortage that is driving the crisis, the Liberals doubled down on the same failing programs like the First-time Home Buyer’s Incentive and the Shared Equity Mortgage fund — programs that won’t see a single additional home built this year, or help a Canadian family afford a home who otherwise couldn’t.

“As housing prices set new records every month, and have doubled under Justin Trudeau, Canadians can’t afford more hollow promises and failing programs.

“Conservatives will continue to be the voice of families and young people across Canada who are struggling to afford rent and are giving up on the dream of homeownership. We will continue to advocate for common-sense solutions to keep the dream of homeownership alive.”
