OTTAWA, ON – The Hon. Erin O’Toole, Leader of Canada’s Conservatives and the Official Opposition, today released the following statement regarding the votes on the two Opposition Day motions:
“Today, our motion forcing the Liberal government to share answers with Canadians on the COVID-19 vaccine rollout passed with the support of all parties. As part of the plan, Canadians will know when they can expect each vaccine type to be available in Canada and how many vaccines will be available per month.
“In the middle of a historic health crisis, the Trudeau government should not be operating behind closed doors. Finally, the Liberal government committed to providing Canadians with much needed certainty and clarity. We will continue to press the government to ensure they follow through in sharing this information with Canadians and provinces by December 16, so we can all go into the holidays with a plan and hope for next year.
“While Conservatives welcome this overdue commitment, it’s shameful that the Trudeau Liberals then voted to increase taxes on Canadians as the holiday season arrives.
“For Canadians and the economy to prosper, we need to take concrete action to help workers and small businesses. Instead, the Liberals want struggling businesses to spend the holidays worrying whether they will qualify for help and hardworking Canadians worrying how they will afford the Liberal tax hikes.
“This Christmas will be very difficult for Canadians – and the Liberals have shown they have no plans to make the new year any easier.”
