OTTAWA, ON – The Hon. Erin O’Toole, Leader of Canada’s Conservatives and the Official Opposition, today released the following statement on the Conservative Opposition Day motion calling on the Trudeau Liberals to table their plan to get COVID-19 vaccines to Canadians:
“Today, Conservatives are calling on the Trudeau Liberals to share their plan to get COVID-19 vaccines to Canadians. Now more than ever, Canadians deserve certainty, clarity, and competence from their government.
“We are asking the Liberals to put the health and safety of Canadians first by sharing how each type of vaccine will be safely delivered to Canada, stored, and distributed.
“Canadians deserve to know when they can expect each vaccine type to be available in Canada and how many vaccines will be available per month.
“As part of the plan, provinces and health partners across the country need to know if there will be federal guidance on which priority groups will receive the first rounds of vaccines, such as front-line health workers and seniors.
“The Liberal government must share how they plan to distribute vaccines to Indigenous communities, members of the Canadian Armed Forces, and veterans – all who fall under federal jurisdiction.
“This is common sense. In the middle of a historic health crisis, this government should not be operating behind closed doors.
“With the lives of Canadians at stake, we hope to see all MPs join us in ensuring people across our country get this important information.”
The Conservative Opposition Day motion is:
That, given that a vaccine represents an opportunity to turn the corner of the COVID-19 pandemic and that the successful deployment of a vaccine is essential to the health, safety, and economic security of every Canadian, the House call upon the government to table, electronically, pursuant to Standing Order 32(1), by Wednesday, December 16, 2020, a status update on: (a) how each type of vaccine will be safely delivered to Canada, stored, and distributed to Canadians; (b) the date on which each vaccine type will first be deployed in Canada and the rate of vaccinations anticipated by month; (c) any intended federal guidance with respect to the deployment of the vaccine by priority group, such as front-line health workers and seniors; and (d) the plan for distribution of the vaccine to Indigenous communities, members of the Canadian Armed Forces, and veterans.
