Ottawa, ON – Jasraj Hallan, Conservative Shadow Minister for Finance and Middle Class Prosperity, and Pierre Paul-Hus, Quebec Political Lieutenant, released the following statement on today’s Conservative Opposition Day Motion:
“After eight years of Trudeau, Canadians are out of money and worse off, but it has never been better for this out-of-touch Liberal government and their insider friends.
“The Liberals have vaporized $15 billion on high-priced consultants, including at least $120 million to their friends at McKinsey, gave CERB payments to prisoners and deceased people, and gave millions in wage subsidies to wealthy corporations that were rich enough to pay out dividends and bonuses to their executives. In fact, $200 billion of the Liberal government’s COVID spending measures had nothing to do with helping Canadians through COVID.
“And what do Canadians have to show for it today?
“The result is that the price of a home has doubled and average rent prices soared above $2,000 in our 10 biggest cities. Nearly half of Canadians with variable mortgages will no longer be able to afford their mortgages within 9 months. Canadians are grappling with 40-year high inflation. A quarter of Canadians couldn’t cover an unexpected $500 expense. Many can’t afford groceries for themselves and their families, with one in five skipping meals. Trudeau’s carbon tax has doubled the price of home heating.
“According to the current and a previous Governor of the Bank of Canada, inflation is a made-in-Canada problem. It is the result of Trudeau’s out-of-control spending and mismanagement over the last 8 years, and now the bills are coming due for struggling Canadians.
“Conservatives know the hurt will only grow unless the Liberal government reverses course on its disastrous policies. That is why we are calling on the Liberal government to cap spending, cut waste, fire their high-priced consultants, and eliminate inflationary deficits and taxes that have caused a cost-of-living crisis for Canadians.
“Conservatives are offering clear solutions to the Liberal government, free for the taking. We urge the Liberal government to support our motion and put an end to the hurt they are causing Canadians.”
