Conservatives call for study into Liberal response to Ukraine International Airlines flight 752

Ottawa, ON – Stephanie Kusie, Conservative Shadow Minister for Transport, and Michael Chong, Conservative Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs, released the following statement on a motion the Official Opposition moved at the Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities:

“Today at the Transport Committee, Conservatives called for a study into the government’s response to Iran’s shooting down of Ukraine International Airlines flight 752. Families of the victims have been waiting for far too long for answers, and we are pleased that other parties supported this Conservative study.

“To try to help ensure the families get the answers and justice that they deserve, Conservatives secured a study into this important issue. Canadians do not trust the report from the Iranian aviation authority and families of the victims of flight PS752 deserve to know what happened to their loved ones.

“The Iranian regime must be held to account for killing 176 people – including 138 with ties to Canada.

“Conservatives continue to call on Prime Minister Trudeau to act quickly in seeking compensation from Iran for the families of the victims. The Liberals must also hold the Iranian regime to account by immediately listing Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization – something Justin Trudeau himself supported when it came to a vote before the House of Commons two years ago.”
