OTTAWA, ON – The Hon. Erin O’Toole, Leader of Canada’s Conservatives and the Official Opposition, released the following statement on Canada’s COVID-19 vaccine dose shortfall:
“I want the government to succeed in getting COVID-19 vaccines to Canadians. We cannot secure jobs, we cannot secure our economy, and we cannot secure the future until Canadians are vaccinated.
“The Prime Minister has said all Canadians will have a vaccine by September of this year, but the numbers don’t add up.
“The Prime Minister needs to get an average of 2 million doses to Canada every week to meet his September timeline. He secured zero doses this week, and we’re on track to have a 1.93 million dose shortfall next week, and the same the week after that.
“This means that our elderly and most vulnerable continue to be at risk. This means businesses stay closed and more lives are lost.
“How many doses are coming? When are they arriving? Canadians are confused.
“We need answers and a clear plan to get significantly more vaccines into the arms of Canadians. Without this, how will we meet the government’s September 2021 target?
“Canada needs the government to succeed in getting COVID-19 vaccines, that’s why Canada’s Conservatives will continue to advocate for greater transparency and a real plan to get needles in the arms of Canadians.”
