Washington, D.C. – The Hon. Candice Bergen, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Official Opposition, is travelling to Washington, D.C. to meet with US lawmakers and to promote Canada-US ties.
The United States is Canada’s most important ally and largest trading partner. Our two countries share a historic alliance based on common values and close economic ties. That is why Conservative Leader Candice Bergen, as well as Conservative Shadow Minister for International Trade and Supply Chain Resilience, Randy Hoback are travelling to Washington DC to hold meetings with US lawmakers to discuss issues including Canada-US trade, the Canada-US border, and energy security.
“At a time when Canadians and Americans are seeing record inflation causing the cost of everything to go up, it is more important than ever that we work with our American counterparts to ensure that trade disputes and buy-American policies don’t increase the cost of living further,” said Ms. Bergen. “There are a number of very serious issues facing our two countries right now, including trade disputes, the impact of buy-American policies, ongoing threats to shut down the Line 5 pipeline, as well as matters of security and national defence. Conservatives know when we work together, our two countries can be leaders in supplying the world with our natural resources, energy, and critical minerals. Conservatives will work to help provide solutions that create and protect good jobs, and make life more affordable for Canadians in all parts of the country.”
Ms. Bergen is meeting with Kirsten Hillman, the Canadian Ambassador to the United States, House Minority Whip Steve Scalise, as well as a number of members of the US House of Representatives. Ms. Bergen is also meeting with representatives from the US Chamber of Commerce, as well as Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian-American Business Council, Maryscott Greenwood.
Ms. Bergen arrived in Washington DC Thursday morning and will return to Canada Monday.
