Ottawa, ON – Eric Melillo, Conservative Shadow Minister for Federal Economic Development Agency for Northern Ontario, introduced Bill C-376, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (orders prohibiting the possession of weapons).
Bill C-376 would stop anyone convicted of a violent indictable offence from possessing a firearm for a specified period of time.
“After 8 years of this NDP-Liberal government, Canadians don’t feel safe walking down the street, and the government is doing nothing to stop it. In fact, they are making it worse,” said MP Melillo. “Violent gun crime has skyrocketed after eight years of the NDP-Liberal government’s soft-on-crime policies.”
Under Justin Trudeau, violent crime has increased by 39%, homicides by 43%, and gang murders have more than doubled. “Rather than the NDP-Liberal approach of going after law-abiding firearms owners, Indigenous hunters, and sport shooters, my common sense Bill C-376 will ensure that violent criminals are prohibited by court order from owning firearms,” MP Melillo added. “Criminals found in violation of the order can be charged with a criminal offence. Only Common sense Conservatives are serious about tackling violent crime and bringing home safe streets.”
