Ottawa, ON – The Honourable Erin O’Toole, Leader of Canada’s Conservatives, and the Official Opposition, issued a statement calling on the Liberal government to finally address the housing crisis in Canada:

“With Christmas just 16 days away, this is supposed to be a time to celebrate with family and friends, and to enjoy the warmth and hope of the season. But Canadians are rightfully worried.

“They are worried about housing, job security, and what the rising cost of living and inflationary concerns will mean for their children. Canadians from coast-to-coast-to-coast are being priced out of their daily lives in Justin Trudeau’s economy, and too many Canadians will never be able to afford a home.

“Just yesterday, a survey said that half of Canadians under 30 have given up on this very dream. To add insult to injury, real estate prices are expected to surge another 9.2 per cent next year, ahead of a widely anticipated interest rate increase.

“Today, Canada’s Conservatives will be holding the Trudeau government to account in the House of Commons to finally address the housing crisis in Canada. It’s time to stop foreign investors from buying Canadian real estate and driving up prices while many homes sit vacant, make federal property available to ensure new homes get built, and for the Trudeau Liberals to abandon their plan to tax the sale of homes.

“Canada’s Conservatives will be the voice for the millions of Canadians left behind in Justin Trudeau’s economy. Whether you’re already a homeowner, or whether you are a renter hoping to become one, Conservatives will fight to protect your home and future.”
