Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Ed Fast, Conservative Shadow Minister for Finance, and Gérard Deltell, Conservative Shadow Minister for Innovation, Science and Industry, released the following statement after Bank of Canada Governor Tiff Macklem revealed the carbon tax contributed to runaway inflation rates:
“Today, Governor Macklem admitted what Conservatives have been saying for years: the Liberal Carbon Tax is making life more expensive for Canadians.
“In documents tabled with the Standing Committee on Finances (FINA), Governor Macklem revealed that the Liberal Carbon Tax increased inflation by 0.4 per cent, compounding the cost-of-living crisis created by Justin Trudeau.
“With inflation at the highest rate in 30 years, and the cost-of-living crisis making everything from gas to groceries more expensive, the last thing that Canadians need is another tax making life less affordable.
“Yet, that’s exactly what the Liberals are doing, as Justin Trudeau is set to increase the carbon tax again next month by another $10/tonne, costing families across Canada an extra 11¢/litre at the pump.
“Canadians who are struggling to get by simply can’t afford more of Justin Trudeau’s high-tax, high-spend agenda.
“Conservatives will continue to be the voice for the millions of Canadians left behind in Justin Trudeau’s economy and who are looking for relief from Canada’s affordability crisis. As Parliament resumes, Conservatives will continue to propose innovative solutions to leave more money in Canadians’ pockets, and to help fight the cost-of-living crisis.”
